  2. When my business partner and I made the decision 2 years ago to open a salon we did not have goals we were working toward, but rather a situation from which we were running. We were flying by the seat of our pants.
    A little less than a year ago we lost 2/3 of our staff in one day and at first we were devastated. We learned to see this as an opportunity to build our Dream Team and that is what the past 10 months has been about.
    In our area booth renting is popular for any stylist that has a decent clientelle and we are one of the only true commission salons. Therefore, it is impossible to find stylists with a following to work for us and we have realized that we are going to have to hire from recent cosmetology school graduates. That is okay, because it is much easier to fill up a blank mind with the right ideas than it is to clean out the cobwebs and canker sores of a mind that has been exposed to the wrong ideas. Our mantra has become "Hire for attitude, train for aptitude."
    I need help with how to market these young stylists and also how to give them the confidence that they need to be successful in this business.
    I feel that a VIP membership with you could give me lots of ideas and encouragement that I need to take my business to the next level.

  3. I am the owner of a laser center/medspa with no physician input. I also treat the majority of the clients along with 2 capable part-time (hourly) employees . My clients are happy, my staff is helpful and reasonable but the schedule is full of empty slots. As the sole decision maker I am tired and underpaid and the bills equal the income (in a good week). If we could bring in more clients there would be better cashflow and higher morale but it is a challenge to feel inspired and inspire my staff after working so hard these last 2 years. I long for the encouragement and understanding of others who have walked in my shoes and succeeded. Your VIP membership may be the key to re-igniting my joy for this amazing business adventure.

  4. I have 2 "boutique" studios and a wonderful staff working on a 40/60(house)split. (A couple of original LMT's are still upset wanting 50% as they used to). Our massage services are priced right for today's economy, but we still have clients who want the "Massage Envy" $39/hour...and our LMT's have the opportunity to work in private spas of the many gated communities in our area at 80% payout where services are also higher-priced. I believe a VIP membership will help guide us to be more profitable, including increasing client base and frequency, and decreasing staff payout while working between the larger, expensive spas and the local Massage Envys including keeping our staff happy and providing clients the excellect service and atmosphere they have come to expect.

  5. I have owned my Salon, Day Spa for 14 years. When I started out, I promised the moon to the staff, to quickly learn that I was working with no paycheck to keep those promises. And that is not really what makes them happy.
    In the 14 years I have grown and learned that it takes a happy, positive environment to grow your staff. They also must have a knowledge of how to grow their business and what services are more profitable for them to do.
    I am always looking for more idea's, promotional, and staff motivational to grow mine and their business. I feel that your VIP Membership will give me the tools that I and my staff may need to give us that extra push and understanding of how to get to that "WOW" level.

  6. I have owned my Day Spa for two years now. I find that I am paying bills more than I can pay anyone else.

  7. I left my corporate job 4 years ago to start my own day spa. My passion is the customer experience and I want to give every client the greatest spa experience they have ever had. I have had ups and downs which are normal in every new business. But what I missed the most was having people to brain storm with. I felt very isolated and my family was sick of me talking about the spa. Joining this group has gave me what I was craving. With a VIP membership my goal would be to use the knowledge to create more ups than downs.

    My two partners and I opened out day spa about 6 years ago on a very tight budget. Initially we did alot of the treatments ourselves, but eventually moved into a more behind the scenes management role. In 2007 we bought out one of our business partners, so there are now two of us and we have two managers running the spa on a day to day basis. I have been in and out of hospital all year and have been trying to work any spare minute I can. I would love the opportunity to see what the VIP membership is all about, to help me focus my time on implementing policies that streamline the business and allow for more efficiency and staff involvement.   10. I've put my heart and soul into my business only to have my lifes savings squandered away by staff that doesn't appreciate me. It's been years of working for free, pulling my hair out dealing with issues on a daily basis. Now with the recession I make less than nothing. Please help me turn around my business, put some profit into it so I can finally pay myself and allow me to enjoy life again.

  11. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE PICK ME. I gave up a $50,000/year corporate job and took my retirement money to open up last year. Who knew there were such therapist issues? Is it like this with everyone? I so much need someone to learn from and share ideas with dealing with therapists. I'm sure your marketing ideas will really grow my business as well since your weekly tips have already done so much for my spa.

  12. I'm opening my new salon/spa next week in a suburb of DETROIT! That is good enough reason to win in itself. I have been on leave from doing hair for 1 year in order to grow my home care business. I started it 5.5 years ago when my dad recheved a head injury. My mom had a strok after that and I opened a home care. I missed doing hair and the barber shop next to my homecare closed. What a sign! So with the help of my landlord we are opeing next week. With the economy the way it is here in Detroit people think we are CRAZY! I worked threw one recetion in the 80'S, I'm praying my brand new spa gets threw this one. We need any pointers we can get.

  14. I have several of your DVDs and have tried some other products of yours and am always impressed with the information. Their "down and dirty" and straight to the point! It's a breath of fresh air since most consultants aren't in your shoes and tell you just what you want to hear. You're not afraid to let us know how it is and your sincerity shows through.   16. This is so exciting! I remember when you launched a year ago but hesitated due to you being new. Now after watching all the growth and everything you've done for the spa industry over the last year I can't wait to take advantage of the bonuses you're offering this Monday!

    Winning your vip membership would help me treat my business like a business.
    I've spent way too much time and made way too many mistakes trying to do everything myself. Trying to do EVERYTHING on your own just doesn't work.
    I'd use your vip membership to set a goal for myself to get one new client a day using your marketing tactics, which would bring me in an additional $2,000 a month which would keep me open!

  18. Ok, I've waited long enough to jump in, thought I better do as you say and "take action" before the contest was over.

    Staying open is the benefit I'd get if I won the VIP membership. I've done everything I can to pinch pennies and cut costs, but it's not enough.

    I don't care about profit or money for myself, I just want to save all I worked for this past decade. Things have never been worse.

    I'm sure your membership would give me a big enough increase in my bottom line to ride the storm out and be one of the few surviving spas when this is all said and done.

    I’ve been hesitant about the VIP Membership because I was afraid I would be too slow and feel like I would always be behind. But after talking with Chris over the past few weeks and all he has done for me, making me accountable, helping me to devise a plan and taking one thing at a time when I get overwhelmed… I got a taste of what the VIP Membership is about and I am finally confident that I would benefit in so many ways. I am a free spirit and very creative/ artistic = scatterbrained & A.D.D. and I believe being a VIP Member would help me to set solid Goals and Plans of Action to accomplish what I need to accomplish to be successful. There are several areas of my business that would benefit from the VIP Membership.

    Staying OPEN! Not just surviving – but THRIVING!

    Profitability – Becoming profitable so that I can accomplish personal dreams and goals like adopting children, buying a house, supporting my husband while he’s in Nursing School so he can attend full time (I’ve taken home less than $10k TOTAL in the 3 years we’ve been open! Most of my staff makes over $24K per year and one made over $40K last year!)

    Sharing – Being able to share a profit with my mom/ business partner so she can finally retire from her corporate job (where she works 50+ hour every week, has never been allowed to take more than 3 days off at a time for a vacation, and works when she is sick!!!) so she can actually take part in the business with me instead of just working the front desk on Wednesday evenings after work and on most Saturdays

    Accountability – So that when I set goals and incorporate my dreams into my business they can become a reality; like having a spa taxi/ chauffer (highly requested!) and free valet (we are in an office building and people don’t like the walk from the parking lot).

    Community – So that I can continue sharing my experiences with others and learning from other Day Spa Owners where we can relate to and support one another especially those of us who feel alone and the people in our lives are weary of hearing about the spa. My husband is very supportive but feels bad that he cannot help b/c he know absolutely nothing about business & spa stuff. He doesn’t even like getting massages!!! So it’s great to have others to talk to and share with.

    Staff – Creating a positive work environment with lots of support for training staff and creating a team mindset. Training staff is definitely a weak point for me and I would love to have a partner to help me with strengthening this area. Looking forward to the MassageU and EstheticianU websites for the staff!!!  BTW… Offering this was the thing that pushed me over the “edge of indecision” into deciding that I wanted to go ahead and take the plunge for upgrading to VIP.

    Although I would be EXTREMELY grateful, I’m okay if I don’t get selected for the free VIP Membership as you all have given me so much already. I plan to sign up for it regardless. There are others on here that would probably need to see the VIP Membership work for them 1st before they commit and I would like to see them helped.

  21. I have a wonderful spa made possible with a wonderful staff. Help me be a better leader and innovator to push us over the top. We've been in business for three years and have won a national award from DAYSPA magazine but I know we can do even better. I am not afraid to try new things and implement changes quickly. I am so sure that we would benefit. I have invested $1000's of dollars in education and have learned brought something back for us each time. I need help getting over the profit hump. Breaking even but need to increase our bottom line every month. We seem to be stuck in a rut and I need your help.
